چکیده

Understanding interspecific morphometric variation is a prerequisite of species identification, evolutionary and taxonomic studies. The external features (i.e. ratios) five Macrobrachium viz., rosenbergii, M. lanchesteri, dolichodactylus, idella lamarrei from three rivers in northern Bangladesh, were used to analyze variation. samples collected Jamuneshwari river, Tangon river Atrai river. Morphometric ratios data subjected univariate ANOVA test. To assess variations among the species, principal component analysis (PCA) canonical variate (CVA) performed. Four PCA explained 95.31% data. CVA correctly classified as 46.53%, 30.02%, 18.10% 5.35% respectively using ratio results formed compact cluster while showed that completely separate cluster. A dendrogram independently developed based on phenotypic traits individuals confirmed presence differentiation. baseline evidence ensuing current study would be advantageous for geometric morphometric, genetic investigations further situ conservation Bangladesh.

Fecundity and fertility of Macrobrachium amazonicum (Crustacea, Palaemonidae).

In Brazil, studies with native freshwater prawn species were discontinued due to great importance of Macrobrachium rosenbergii. Therefore, it is necessary to continue investigations about our species, in order to develop technology adequate to our reality and in a future allow prawn farmers to culture other species. The aim of this study was to determine the fecundity and fertility of Macrobrac...

Reproductive cycle of Macrobrachium amazonicum females (Crustacea, Palaemonidae).

Macrobrachium amazonicum is considered a favorite Brazilian species of freshwater prawn for cultivation as a result of its quick development and because it is easy to maintain in captivity. The aim of this work is to describe the sexual cycle stages and determine maturation age of the female M. amazonicum, which was collected monthly from June, 2002 to May, 2003 in the Jaguaribe River, Itaiçaba...

Reproductive and morphometric traits of Macrobrachium amazonicum (Decapoda: Palaemonidae) from the Pantanal, Brazil, suggests initial speciation.

The palaemonid shrimp Macrobrachium amazonicum shows an unusually large geographic range (ca. 4000km across) living in coastal, estuarine, and limnic inland habitats of the upper Amazon, Orinoco, and La Plata basins. This raises doubts whether allopatric, ecologically diverse populations belong to the same species. While shrimps from estuarine and Amazonian habitats have been studied in great d...

Setal morphology of the grooming appendages of Macrobrachium rosenbergii (Crustacea: Decapoda: Caridea: Palaemonidae) and review of decapod setal classification.

Setae are vital in grooming activities and aiding in the removal of epibionts and sedimentary fouling from the body surfaces of decapod crustaceans. Thus, the setal structures and their arrangement on the grooming appendages and sensory structures of the commercially important shrimp, Macrobrachium rosenbergii, were examined using scanning electron microscopy. Macrobrachium rosenbergii is exten...

Molecular perspective on the American transisthmian species of Macrobrachium (Caridea, Palaemonidae)

The closure of the Isthmus of Panama (about 3.1 million years ago) separated previously continuous populations and created two groups of extant species, which live now in the Pacific and Atlantic drainage systems. This relatively recent event was a trigger to diversification of various species in the Neotropics, nonetheless there are exemplars that do not show sufficient morphologic variability...
